Douglas Howerton, MD
Dr. Douglas Howerton
was born in Bluefield, West Virginia and graduated with honors
(Alpha Omega Alpha) from West Virginia School of Medicine. He completed
his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at
the Cleveland Clinic Foundation where he earned distinction as Chief
GI Fellow. He also completed an advanced endoscopy fellowship in therapeutic
ERCP at St. Luke’s Hospital, Racine, Wisconsin, in association
with the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Howerton has been board
certified in gastroenterology since 1993.
Dr. Howerton joined Gastroenterology Associates in 1993.
His professional interests include pancreaticobiliary disorders, sphincter-of-Oddi
dysfunction, therapeutic ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoluminal
stenting, and colorectal cancer. Dr. Howerton serves as an Associate
Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical
School.
